“For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
-King Jesus
The message of Christ’s incarnation, baptism, crucifixion, and resurrection isn’t a religious system of morality. Christ didn’t die to make us nicer dead people still separated from God.
The message of Scripture is that, by God’s grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone to the glory of God alone, wretched sinners (all humanity) can be forever reconciled, in fact, redeemed - brought back into perfect relationship with our eternal Creator of Holy Trinity.
That’s the grace King Jesus came, identified, suffered, died, and rose victoriously to secure for EVERYONE who would repent and abandon unto Him - regardless of color, ethnicity, IQ, economic, or any other category.
Yes, Easter was originally a pagan fertility festival, but that’s not what born-again followers of Christ celebrate. We celebrate God’s unmerited, unyielding, undying, unending, and UNSTOPPABLE love, kindness, mercy, and grace displayed perfectly three days after King Jesus' literal death and burial in Joseph’s tomb.
We celebrate our victorious and everlasting life in our Risen Lord as we sing:
O death, where is thy sting?
O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law!
But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
He is risen!
